So, I started the gym… again

Last month me and my Fiancé Toney joined the gym… again. We both need to get into shape, especially as our wedding is this coming Easter!

Were not gym buffs and I doubt we ever will be (We love food way too much!). Personally I’m not overweight, nor “fat” either. I’ve been very lucky throughout my life to be the kind of girl who could eat whatever she wants and not put a pound on. However since I’ve moved to Florida I’ve noticed my body becoming less resilient towards the calories and with all honesty we have both become a lot more, shall I say “relaxed”? (Laughs).

I’ve decided to set myself certain goals and none are to see the pounds fall off the scales or to drop a dress size. I’m not calorie counting or cutting out the junk food, I’m simply changing my habits, being stricter with myself & exercising more. Just trying to improve the current me! I’m not loving my body at the moment but hopefully with some hard work & determination I’ll become happier in myself than I ever was before!

For instance one of my goals is to drink more water and lower my sugar intake. I love a good cup of tea, especially Yorkshire gold, nice and strong with lots of sugar but I’m limiting myself to three cups a day and I’m slowly lowering how much sugar I put in as I get used to it. Along with trying to drink at least three bottles of water a day which for me is a lot!

Luckily Toney is a really good cook and makes healthy food taste good. He’s started doing meal prep for the week for us, which I thought I’d find it hard not eating pizza but it’s not been bad and it’s nice just grabbing something out the fridge and being able to eat it straight away. I’ll post some of his meal prep recipes and ideas soon (there really good!).

My second goal is to get more toned. I’m not aiming for a six pack but I would like to be more toned all round. It helps that I’m really loving the gym we’ve joined too.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s full of muscle guys and girls who follow each other around taking pictures and videos of themselves (each to their own), I find it rather uncomfortable but it’s also full of people who want to change for the better & I like that.

We both aim to go to the gym Monday-fri or at least four times a week and we go around eight thirty – nine at night, which is good because it’s got us into a routine. For anyone thinking about joining a gym or struggling to stay motivated is definitely recommend sticking to the same days/times that you go as that’s really helped us.

I haven’t seen too much physical change yet but I’ve noticed I’m becoming more active and fit. My first day I could only walk/jog around one mile and I’d need to get off the treadmill, however Monday I walked nearly three miles with some thirty second running throughout.

I’ll write some posts about the meal preps Toney has been preparing for us as we’ve both been loving them and actually sticking to them too! I’ll keep you updated with our progress, (got to love before & after pics) and I’ll include anything else we’ve used to help us get into better shape.

LOVE,

  1. Enjoy your post! Congrats on the upcoming wedding!!! I understand the losing weight thing. I’m doing workouts at home and trying to eat better, though I had a Steak and Shake shake today! It was yummy!

    1. Thank you very much! I have but most of the ones I’ve tried which were from England tasted really watery, I haven’t tried any in the states so I might try picking up some! Thanks for that idea! I’ll let you know if I get into them 😁☺️😘 I’ll keep you updated 😌

  2. I too ma sailing in the same boat. Though my wedding is totally out of question anytime soon, but the guilt that lingered of shunning a healthy habit of over 7 years in a few months made me rejoin the gym. And I am glad I did it. Looking forward to the recipes 🙂

  3. I totally relate here. I just turned 23 and while I’m not fat, I’m not as lean as I was only a few years ago with minimal effort. My husband and I are working towards being fitter and healthier, within reason.
I just started working with weights not too long ago, and that’s where I’ve relly started to see a shift in my body- low weight, high reps. Try it out along with keeping up the cardio. Good luck!

    1. Thanks for reading & commenting! I’ve started weights too, I’ve seen a progress with my arms and legs but not my stomach yet which is why I’m trying to keep up with the cardio. Hopefully we will both get to where we want! ☺️☺️ all the best with yours too!

      1. I love that comment as I had two ice creams last night 🙈 so I know how you feel. As I said in this post “I’m not giving up junk food”. Meal preps helping though! ☺️

  4. Those meal prep dishes look amazing! I hope your journey into fitness goes well. I remember having to try multiple times getting into a gym routine before I found my groove and went regularly. And it is a lot more motivating with a gym partner!

  5. Congrats on your wedding! One question; I work until around 6:30pm and by the time I get home I’m pooped! I need to start going to the gym after work as I am up at 6am each morning, meaning I can’t physically get there for a morning session! When you go to the gym at 8:30pm/9, what do you do about eating your evening meal? I hate going to the gym on a full stomach as it makes me feel ill but then if I go straight from work I would be starving and that would also make me feel sick! What time do you eat vs when you go for an evening session?

    Thanks, Sophie ♥

    1. Thank you! 😘

If depends what food we are eating. If we’re are going to prepare and cook something we eat before we go to the gym around 6:30-7pm, if we’re eating our meal prep we have it after the gym, some people wouldn’t recommend that as it’s eating late and before bed but it works for us and sometimes with work you can’t help what time you eat!

Hope it goes well for you! 😁😁

      1. So glad I’ve helped a little 😁 to be honest as long as a I spend time in the gym I don’t fuss too much on my eating! Obviously don’t eat cake all day everyday but don’t calorie count or anything like that ☺️☺️

  6. Congratulations on your wedding! I think what you are doing is awesome! It can be so difficult to get back into the habit of making healthy choices every single day. I have definitely been there! I recently shared some of my personal tips that I use to look and feel my best. Maybe they can help you too 🙂 blondedrifter.com/vacation-shape/
